One Heartbeat

Akačehennyi on a Diet of Dreams: The Story of a Heartbeat is an experiment for me on many levels. Most obviously, it’s a novel that takes place on a blog, but more importantly, the medium allows one to experiment with a wide variety of tools: HTML coding, voice excerpts and images, to name a few. Similar experiments happened near the beginning of the typewritten novel with experiments in text manipulation.

Obviously, a science fiction story has different potential and demands. The ecosystem, even with all the attention to fruits and nuts, is very different on an alien world, and the level of technology does not lend itself well to video posts. Once I begin adding voice, I will also post transcripts of any voice conversations for those who cannot (for one reason or another) take advantage of the audio format. There will always be a textual component to the work.

Much of this work is not premeditated. I have a plot and I know where the story will end, but the journey will be extemporaneous and have minimal editing applied (much like real diary entries)—with the exception, of course, of the posts requiring other media because they will take time to prepare.

So sit back, turn on some Crowded House*, and enjoy the ride. I will post more commentary here as the project develops.
